About San Remo Estates
San Remo Estates is a bayfront neighborhood at the southern edge of the city of Sarasota, along Siesta Drive beside the north bridge to Siesta Key. Many homes sit right on Sarasota Bay, some with docks and boat lifts, and the San Remo Estates Homeowners Association represents the neighborhood.
The name dates to 1926, when Chicago developer Michael Schiavone planned a subdivision named after the Italian resort town, but the land boom ended first. In 1952 Raymond J. Roy of Roy Construction Co. bought the property, added about 30 acres of filled bay bottom and built out about 50 acres of mostly ranch-style homes, inviting other builders as well. At least one house was designed by Victor Lundy of the Sarasota School of Architecture, and a Sarasota County historical marker stands at Siesta Drive and Tangier Terrace.
Many original ranches have since been replaced by large custom homes, and new homes are still being built on rebuilt lots. Recent prices have run from about $6 million to $16 million. Siesta Key Beach and downtown Sarasota are both minutes away.

What is the history of San Remo Estates?
Chicago developer Michael Schiavone formed the San Remo Improvement Corporation in 1926 and announced a subdivision named after the Italian resort, but the plans were abandoned when the land boom ended. In 1952 Raymond J. Roy of Roy Construction Co. bought the land, added about 30 acres of filled bay bottom and developed about 50 acres of mostly ranch-style homes. At least one home was designed by Victor Lundy of the Sarasota School of Architecture. The Sarasota County Historical Commission placed a marker at Siesta Drive and Tangier Terrace in 2013.
