Riverwood is a gated golf community in Port Charlotte, in unincorporated Charlotte County, reached from State Road 776 (El Jobean Road). The community covers more than 1,300 acres, and about 300 acres of that land is preserves, wetlands, ponds or lakes. Riverwood was started in 1992 and completed in 2014, it has won multiple design awards, and it has been recognized as an Audubon Green Community. Behind almost every home or condo is a view of the golf course, a preserve or a lake.

Riverwood has 1,323 homes in 29 neighborhoods, a mix of single-family homes, villas and condos, with neighborhood names such as Stonebridge, Fairway Lakes, Eagle Trace, Riverside, Lakeshore Village, Silver Lakes, Myakka Pointe, Sawgrass Pointe and Redfin Shores at Riverwood. Every owner pays the master association, which covers 24-hour gate coverage, an on-site community association manager, a full-time activity director and the main common grounds. Each neighborhood association sets its own services, which can include lawn care, exterior maintenance, building insurance and water and sewer.

The Activity Center has a library, fitness center, meeting and craft rooms, a resort pool, a lap pool and spa, six lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, six pickleball courts, lawn croquet, bocce and a dog park. Riverwood Golf Club, at 4100 Riverwood Drive, is an 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Gene Bates, with a clubhouse and restaurant. The Riverwood Beach Club on Manasota Key, about 15 miles away, has a beachfront pavilion for members. Port Charlotte Town Center is about 15 minutes away by car, Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is about 35 minutes away, and Southwest Florida International (RSW) and Sarasota Bradenton International (SRQ) are each about 70 minutes away.

What do the HOA fees cover?

Every homeowner pays the Riverwood master association, which covers 24-hour coverage at the gate, an on-site community association manager five days a week, a full-time activity director, the tennis facility operator, use of the Activity Center and maintenance of the main common grounds. Each neighborhood also has its own association, and depending on the neighborhood and type of home, it may cover lawn care, building maintenance, building insurance, water and sewer, neighborhood common ground care and street lighting.

What is the Riverwood golf course like?

Riverwood Golf Club offers memberships and also books tee times online. The course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship layout designed by Gene Bates; the front nine runs through pine woods and the back nine through salt marsh and wetlands.

Is there beach access?

Riverwood has a Beach Club on Manasota Key, about 15 miles away, with a beachfront pavilion for picnics, changing rooms, restrooms and private parking for club members. Membership information for the Beach Club is available at the Riverwood Activity Center.
