About Avondale
Avondale is one of Sarasota's older in-town neighborhoods, set along the south side of Hudson Bayou just south of downtown and west of the Trail. The Avondale Residents Association is a member of the city's Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations.
The land was recorded as Avondale Heights in 1915. In 1924 the Bacheller-Brewer Corporation replatted it as Avondale, enlarging the lots and widening the streets during the Florida land boom. Today 1920s Mediterranean Revival homes share the streets with midcentury and newer houses of about 1,900 to 3,900 square feet. Homes sold for about $1,250,000 to $5,425,000 in the last two years.
Southside Village, Selby Gardens, Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the downtown bayfront are all close, and the beaches of Siesta Key and Lido Key are a short drive away.

Where is Avondale in Sarasota?
Avondale sits on the south side of Hudson Bayou, west of the Trail and just south of downtown Sarasota, around Bahia Vista Street, Brewer Place and Lincoln Drive. Southside Village, Selby Gardens and downtown are close by.
How old is Avondale?
The land south of Hudson Bayou was recorded as the Avondale Heights subdivision in 1915. In 1924 the Bacheller-Brewer Corporation replatted it as Avondale, with larger lots and wider streets, during the Florida land boom. A 1926 Mediterranean Revival model home at 1903 Lincoln Drive is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Avondale is a neighborhood of single-family homes. Mediterranean Revival houses from the 1920s stand next to Colonial Revival homes from the 1930s, many homes from the 1950s and 1960s, and newer houses, ranging from about 1,900 to 3,900 square feet. Some homes sit on Hudson Bayou.
